Visionary Portrait Seminar with Amanda Sage & Guests
11.11 – 12.12
on ZOOM
Join us for the 2nd and last online painting seminar of 2020. If you went with us through T2020, we've designed this with your feedback in mind and hope you will join us for round 2! If you are new to my workshops, welcome on board:) And if we've done a bunch of these together we look forward to the continued expansion of our story together.
'Relections 2020' is a visionary painting workshop intensive designed to develop inner and outer observation while following a step by step method derived from the technique known as the Mischtechnik. The primary theme of this intensive will be portraiture and storytelling.
MAIN THEME:
There will be multiple projects aimed for the development of skills in painting and drawing. Each artist will also be invited to focus on one primary painting as we develop the works simultaneously. The subject will be either a self-portrait or portrait of someone who’s legacy and voice you want to amplify.
As artists interested in creating positive change we have a powerful opportunity to support and amplify the voices of those that need to be heard that remind us that we belong, that reconnect us with the earth and each other. This transformational year of 2020 has rattled the old systems and is waking us up quicker than ever before. Black Lives Matter has motivated a deep call to address the injustices that have happened and are still happening at large and artists are key players using art to amplify the need for change. Art is a powerful tool when embedded with purpose. Who are you inspired by?
Through the process of making artifacts our intentions are magnified and exposed as an offering that can tell the stories, histories and prophecies of humanity. These artifacts can then be used to amplify the vision that resonates through the subject reaffirmed through the artist and expanded into the field to feed hungry souls.
I see this course as an opportunity for us to practice skills and use our voices and time to not just study the beautiful shells of our beings, but to imbed our work with deep intention towards healing, listening and understanding.
Art is medicine and art making is even more powerful medicine. All it takes is the curiosity and passion to explore with an open heart and committed spirit. Together we will show up to our canvas's and amplify each other in a symphony of activation.
Each painting is an iteration of the one before, as is each of these seminars.
Never done before and never to be done again, in this way.
GUEST TEACHERS:
Akil Apollo Davis joins us as with his unique global perspective on the power of intention. He will share with us his work with intention based images and the value in creating an anchor drawing. He will also lead us on a guided journey called the 'Spiral Down Meditation'.
Toni Taylor will share her colorful and inspiring journey as a visionary portrait artist. Offering us a glimpse into her process and techniques of telling people's stories with paint.
Joe Bob Merritt will offer another angle to the study of the self in relationship with life as we ponder our attachments to identity in order to find true freedom.
Michael Fuchs joins us to talk about painting skin tones and what it takes to create a successful image. I first met Michael when I was 18 and I remember him saying how it was a spiritual act to truly observe nature through the act of painting. It rang true to me then and still does today. It is a great honor to have him join us to share his wisdom from many years as an artist that seeks to illuminate the divine through art.
A journey of transformation awaits as participants are guided from the beginning of a painting through completion, following a step-by-step process based on the Mischtechnik in acrylic and oil. (Beginners are advised to just work in acrylic.)
All participants will be assigned to a smaller group based on skill level and will meet weekly as a group for reviews with rotating mentors. This is a development aimed to facilitate more focused support to all participants.
The Mischtechnik is a method of developing a painting in layers, traditionally using egg tempera and oil paint. Originating in the early Renaissance with artists such as Heironymus Bosch it was reinterpreted by the Austrian artist Ernst Fuchs in the 1950’s and was influential in seeding the contemporary Visionary Art movement with its fascinating expression of light.
Amanda has developed a practical system that offers a variety of techniques and perspectives that will change the way you see, and empower you to go deeper into the image.

FACILITATORS
Amanda Sage - Main Teacher & Mentor
is an artist driven to reveal art’s critical role in spiritual transformation. A celebrated visionary artist, she is a citizen of the world, exhibiting in galleries, art fairs and festivals, as well as lecturing and teaching worldwide at places such as the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors in New York, Paradise One in Australia and the Vienna Academy of Visionary Art in Austria. After studying with Michael Fuchs as an apprentice for 2 years in Austria she then became a painting assistant to Ernst Fuchs for 10 years. She has been painting in the Mischtechnik for over 20 years and has developed her own way of expressing and sharing it through over 10 years of teaching. |
My aspiration is to paint messages, visions and narratives that communicate with an ‘older & wiser us’, awakening ancient memory; as well as the ‘present us’, that we may grow up and accept the responsibilities towards ourselves, each other and the rest of existence on this planet.

Akil Apollo Davis
is a full time Performing Artist and Theatre Professor. He is the Co-Host, Mask Dancer, and MC of The Get Down in NY. Originally from Memphis, TN he has taught Theatre and Dance all over America, in over 7 countries, 2 of which are regular and on-going (Bali and Thailand), and is now a Professor of Mask and Art Aesthetic at NYU and SUNY Purchase. Toni Taylor
is an artist whose work travels through the visionary realms of fantasy and mysticism. She feels a special kinship with the mysteries of Ancient Egypt as well as the spirit of indigenous nations. Goddess imagery is represented powerfully in her collection and as a lover of all things celestial, elements of the cosmos often find their way into her paintings. Toni’s creative history includes fine art, illustration, portraiture, murals and scenic painting. She says of her work, ‘When people view my creations, I want them to feel like they’re taking a step beyond perceived reality while tapping into the ethereal and otherworldly. Imagination is the key to unlocking the door to what lies beyond’. Having had no formal training, Toni considers herself ‘life taught’ and her gift a blessing from the Divine Creator. |
Joe Bob Merritt
is a painter, poet and visionary architect making meaning in the material world. Through his teachings he explores a series of teaching ideas focused around the study of the self that weave harmoniously with the practice of arting. Based on his extensive study of the 4th Way, his unique perspective offers tools for becoming a more conscious human being. http://josephrobertmerritt.com https://instagram.com/josephrobertmerritt |
Michael Fuchs
is an artist finding the divine through his practice. With over 50 years of experience and dedication to classical painting his unique perspective has inspired many students and patrons worldwide. "Art is the very mirror of who we are, our aspirations and hopes, our fears and struggles, our loves and hates. It reflects our inner self, our dignity and weakness, our inadequacies as well as strengths. But art is also a window to a world envisioned by faith alone. The world of the saints and angels, the heaven of God. It is from the Creator that we originate and have our being. And so the world of art we create, is also His gift of inspiration to us. The gift of His tender love". |
Stefan Lucas - Mentor
is an artist that uses painting to share and transmit the contents of multidimensional experiences. The intention behind these paintings is that they encourage and inspire individuals to become more aware of their personal multidimensional narratives, histories and trajectories. In 2017 he attended the Vienna Academy of Visionary Art (VAVA) for three years. He learned many techniques from various master visionary artists, eventually becoming an essential member of the VAVA team as the studio monitor and figure drawing instructor. Now at the age of 23, Stefan is working full time in his Viennese painting studio, teaching online courses and practicing Kriya Yoga. This form of mediation is essential to his creative process because to this day, it’s the most integral technique he’s discovered for vividly experiencing the multidimensional nature of reality. www.stefanlucasart.com Instagram.com/stefan.lucas.art |
Yasemin B Duru - Admin Assistant
is a multicultural multidisciplinary artist, currently based in Vienna, Austria. She was introduced to meditation at the age of 3, and as such is able to hold space for much creation and transformation. She is also able to easily tap into subtle energies and visions. Previously using mirrors and crystals as her main forms of medium and using art to question and bring awareness to concepts such as illusion and reality; Yasemin has spent the past year being an active part of the VAVA family and has been building her painting skills to bring her visions to life. In addition to sharing images of a sustainable, inspiring, collaborative future; Yasemin is passionate about themes regarding Earth, animals, mental health awareness, lgbtqia2s+ topics, and empowering others to live their truth, including embodying our multidimensional selves. Painting can be both a meditation and a transformational tool to heal ourselves and the Earth. yaseminduru.art |
Testimonials from Transformation 2020
”I am feeling grateful and blessed for the opportunity to be part of Amanda’s workshop, learning from such a great teacher and wayshower with truly impressive body of work. Even though I had already taste of the mischtechnik from others, this time around my perception expanded in this direction so much deeper, and I had a very profound experience that was like awakening within a hologram of my painting! It made me feel like my journey with this medium is just beginning, and the whole new dimension of reality is opening up before me.” - Kati Astrair https://www.facebook.com/kati.astraeir https://www.instagram.com/astraeir/ |
"The transformation 2020 workshop was truly a transformational experience.
I was so impressed by the whole setup. Amanda is such an incredible teacher, and Alecia had everything running super smoothly. Also really nice to have the different insights and perspectives from the different teachers. I learned so much from it, I honestly think I’m still integrating. The setup is great, and its pretty amazing how it all works so well via zoom. Plus having access to the recordings was a bonus, and super helpful for the days when the timing didn’t work for me. The community aspect was so lovely too, going through this process with people from all over the globe. I always felt supported, and some great connections were made. I was a little apprehensive starting out, not sure where if I’d be good enough with my experience level, but it seems like the workshops could be adapted to suit whatever your level. I felt so supported, and learned so much. Truly grateful for this experience." - Mirin Mooney https://www.mirinmooney.com https://www.instagram.com/mirin_mooney |
"Transformation 2020 is a priceless gift that keeps growing inside me. I never imagined this would be so deep and go far beyond the technical aspect where we can speak up resistance, ideal and even art buisness.
I've been lead to realise a piece that I would have never done alone, and it blows my mind to be able to go so far in a process I just discover. The community is so supportive and inspiring! Honnestly this workshop has been more beneficial for my artistic pursue than my art school graduation, and Amanda is definitely the best teacher I never had. I feel literally bless to have learn from such a master, you can feel that Amanda teach with all her heart and an incredible amount of generosity. I could speak about it for hour as it really did transformed me, and I can only encourage anyone willing to learn to jump into the next workshop, I will for sure !" - Sarita Rezette http://anaba.be https://www.instagram.com/sarita.rzt/ |
