"The time that we spend in creative union
is one of the most valuable things
we can do for our own healing and living a healthy life."
Begin 2020 with Amanda Sage, Joe Bob Merritt and friends in Downtown Los Angeles at Peace Yoga Gallery
to learn tools to better articulate your vision through painting techniques, self observation, plant based food and yoga.
Each location we teach at offers challenges and gifts that we use as inspiration and fuel for doing the work.
Our temporary spaceship studio will be located in the Historic core in a building filled with fashion industry businesses and designers. Peace Yoga Gallery, located in the same building, has been home to a large collection of Amanda’s work for the past 10 years
and will hold an extension of our program.
We will be nourished with plant based superfood by Cheri Rae and team for breakfast and lunch.
This workshop will serve as a basic introduction in acrylic,
to a revised version of the Mischtechnik, which literally means ‘Mixed-Technique’.
It stems from early renaissance painting and refers to working with egg tempera and oil in layers.
In this intensive you will learn a more contemporary version while following the core concepts.
Re-vived in the 1950’s by Austrian artist Ernst Fuchs,
the base concepts in this method of developing a painting is highly conducive for expressing
transcendental subjects and rendering visions.
Fundamentals of the Mischtechnik have been adopted by many painters working with fantastic and visionary subject matter,
as the transparencies and use of light in developing a painting are exquisite.
Amanda studied with Michael Fuchs as an apprentice for 2 years in Austria
and then went on to be an assistant to Ernst Fuchs for 10 years.
She has been painting in a similar method for over 20 years
and has developed her own way of expressing and sharing it through over 10 years of teaching.
Joe Bob Merritt integrates teaching ideas around the study of the self into the workshop
that weave harmoniously with the study of painting.
Based on his extensive study of the 4th Way and Zen Buddhism,
his unique perspective offers tools for becoming a conscious human being.
Together they guide students through the mirror on a transformational journey into themselves.
They see themselves as a per-missionary’s in teaching,
by supporting each student in expanding their tool belt of skills in basic drawing and painting skills,
as well as getting deeper in touch with what they really want to express through their art.
"The most special part of our intensives is the collective magic that happens
when like minded souls come together to create for a week."
THEME : 2020 VISION:
What will the world look like in 2030?
What do you want to see?
‘The artists are the ones painting the signposts for the future” – Jim Channon
Consider this and begin taking notes, making sketches and collecting reference.
You can also show up with a blank slate and allow the piece to develop during the workshop.
I also suggest Self Portraiture as an incredible learning tool,
which I often encourage first time students to explore as a sure way of going deep psychologically
while also learning observation skills and painting technique.
Each student will be invited to start 1 main painting and one practice panel.
